Child Protection
All adults (anyone over the age of 18) volunteering with children and vulnerable adults in our church parish are required by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Diocese of Baton Rouge to meet certain child protection requirements. This includes activities such as, but are not limited to:
- Parish catechetical teachers,
- Vacation Bible school teachers and volunteers,
- Sacramental prep teachers,
- Trainers of altar servers,
- Instructors of any classes for minors,
- Extraordinary minsters of Holy Communion serving in private homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities
- Music directors, accompanists, and choir directors of children’s and mixed adult/ youth choirs,
- Chaperones assisting at events involving minors or vulnerable adults,
- Anyone who will be alone with children or vulnerable adults for any segment of an activity
To be Child Protection certified, you must complete:

Volunteers for the following are most appreciated:
Catechist - A love of sharing your faith with children is necessary! A background in
teaching is not needed. We’ll train you!
Substitute Catechist - Take over a class when the regular catechist is not able to
teach.
Classroom Helper – Assist catechist with classroom activities.
Snack Helper – Help set-up and distribute snacks to classrooms
